You really need to be careful about online poker bluffing. Bluffing in online poker just doesnt work as well as it does in local cardrooms. There are no eyes to read in online poker, no twitching, and no talking to get information out of your opponent at the online poker table.
To put it simply, bluffing is an essential part of poker. If you don’t bluff, you miss the exciting opportunity of winning the pot without having to fight! At the same time, by bluffing too often, you put yourself open to risk against the players who have the real hands, and you also signal to the ones with the proper hands to call you down. So there are some essential things you must know about Poker bluffing online.
You have to incorporate bluffing as well as defend against bluffing in your poker game repertoire. Bluffing is completely different at the ‘real’ poker table. There, you need to guard against the physical ‘tells’ you may have given off unconsciously or consciously. Some professional poker players even shade their eyes with sunglasses so as not to give away any ‘tells’ with their eyes. You can stare at your opponent’s face when he has thrown in his chips. But online, all this is out of the question.
Even when the reward is very little, online players seem to bluff even more than real table players. Perhaps it’s much easier when they only have to click a button on a mouse as opposed to actually announcing their actions and pushing in physical chips. They aren’t staring at anyone so they don’t have to worry about what their eyes are saying, they aren’t handling any chips, and you can’t see them if their pulse quickens and they start to sweat. The only tell that you will be able to use online is the time it takes them to bet and how much they bet. I don’t find either of these tells very reliable, so I don’t make it a habit to call many big bets when I don’t have much of a hand.
